The Larioza's: An Intimate Fall Backyard Elopement

On a cold day in October, Jake and Priscilla said “I Do” in one of the trendiest venues in town; their own backyard! When COVID changed their plans and they couldn’t wait to get married, the pair knew that they could still host their dream wedding and enjoy a more intimate gathering at their home. Many of the elements were thrifted and created by the bride herself. She also decorated with elements from their Spanish-Filipino cultures and included a fire ceremony and even a duck made a guest appearance.

Our couple is showing us just how easy and glamorous hosting a backyard wedding can be. An added bonus we can say about the option of having your wedding at home is how budget savvy it is. By gathering a bank of personal items, rugs, a ceremonial arch, typewriter, flower wall, homemade pinata, Champagne shelf, etc., you can transform your backyard space into a magical setting. The money you would save from renting a wedding venue can then be poured into other wedding elements, such as flowers and other complementary decors. These little accents are very effective at giving your guests a more immersive experience. You and your guests will be transported to a location they might not recognize. I can speak personally and say that it took me more than a few glances into this wedding album to recognize that the wedding wasn’t in a traditional event space.

A wedding experience in your own backyard allows for a smaller, more intimate guest list and makes the reception size feel a lot grander. In their pictures, notice how designed “to the T” each table is. When there are fewer guests on the list and more table space, filling that negative space gives your table a full and lush appearance. In her interview with Junebug Weddings, Priscilla had this to say, “As creatives, Jake and I really wanted to do it all ourselves—I have always wanted to style a wedding. For months, I thrifted and collected brass candlesticks, glass cylinders, vintage luggage and suitcases, candles, etc. My dad and brother made our triangle altar, a pallet wall for hanging photos, and helped set up string lights. I ordered all the flowers and greenery wholesale and decorated our altar myself the day of the wedding. I also made a flower wall with faux grass, wicker baskets, and red roses to play off of the boho vibe. Jake and I even made our own piñata from scratch! We kept joking that this was the biggest production of our lives, but it turned out to be true.”
