A Stunning Soft and Vintage Wedding, Perfect for Any Season

Kailee Palileo 27 Jul 2023

On a warm and sunny day, The Gils said “I Do” at the Magnolia Hotel in downtown Dallas. Despite needing to cut their guest list in half, they were able to keep their original wedding date and venue. The flowers helped the couple keep an impressive, well-designed wedding and stay on their planned budget. Andria and her team were incredibly resourceful in the wake of COVID complications.

Keep reading to get the full scoop on how she pulled it off and to see all the resources FiftyFlowers provides each of our clients.

How did you learn about FiftyFlowers?

Andria: My sister got married in 2018 and was a DIY Bride. When she had trouble sourcing specific flowers from her local florist, she turned to the internet and found FiftyFlowers. And she had an amazing experience! When my own wedding day was coming, we both knew we wanted to use FiftyFlowers exclusively. My own experience was perfect from beginning to end, and I’m so grateful we used them.

Why did you choose to be a DIY Bride?

Andria: A big factor in choosing to buy in bulk and design our own wedding flowers was that we wanted to stick to our budget. I shopped around at a few of my local florists but was shocked at how expensive my flower vision was. I’ve seen just how beautiful DIY wedding flowers can turn out. With FiftyFlowers, I didn’t have to sacrifice my floral dreams in the name of my budget. An added bonus was the quality time I got to spend with my family and friends while making my wedding flowers. I really enjoyed that bonding time as we designed all of my wedding florals.

How did COVID affect your original wedding plans?

Andria: COVID definitely changed our original plans. We were lucky that we were able to keep our date and location but we did have to cut our guest list in half. We had to send regret cards out to a lot of friends and family members. Looking back sometimes it is sad we weren't able to have everyone we wanted there. But at the end of the day, we are so happy we were able to marry each other on our original date! The end of wedding planning was very stressful as we were on hold planning for about 3-4 months. We made it happen and had the wedding of our dreams!

How did you determine your color palette?

Andria: I always knew dark green was going to be a key color to our wedding color palette. I then found complementary colors to accent. I knew I wanted my bridesmaids in dark green so I matched them with a lot of soft colors like light pink and white. I also spent a lot of time on Pinterest looking at bouquets and came across a picture that inspired the final colors of my bouquet. That is why I chose the Amnesia Lavender Novelty Rose from FiftyFlowers. It really popped well in our bouquets amongst the soft pink and whites!

What was your design experience like?

Andria: The design process was very easy for me! My sister (MOH) pulled all the flowers she thought would fit my style based on my vision boards and the number of flowers I needed. . FiftyFlowers has an amazing selection of flowers so finding what I wanted was as easy as making a few clicks. We were able to look through different options until we had the perfect quantities for my order. From there placing my order was a breeze. FiftyFlowers assured me that everything would arrive on time. One of the flowers I had originally purchased was out of stock and I was notified that it was not going to arrive in time. Someone from FiftyFlowers connected with me immediately and sent me other flower options to choose from that would be a perfect replacement! The entire process was so seamless! Once we got the flowers it was a lot of fun creating the arrangements with my bridesmaids and family. We had an assembly line of trimming, arranging, and final touches. It’s an experience that I highly recommend to anyone who is thinking about designing their own wedding flowers!

What tips or advice would you give future couples looking to purchase and DIY their wedding flowers from FiftyFlowers?

Andria: Do your research. Make a spreadsheet to compare and keep track of the costs of each of the flowers you are looking at From there you can mix & match the flowers you are liking and which ones will best fit into your budget! And watch the YouTube videos FiftyFlowers has walking you through the step-by-step process on how to create your arrangements before you create your flowers. They help you know what to expect when designing your flowers and share with you the supplies you will need for each project

We also made time to run through the design process and what the preparation process would be like for the big day?

FiftyFlowers was always going to be our wedding flower provider, but we did something to help us prepare. We went to our local stores (Trader Joe’s, Kroger) and pulled the same or similar flowers that we knew we wanted for the wedding. We tried our hand at making a "mock" bridal bouquet and bridesmaid bouquet. Of course, they weren’t a good representation of what the final product would be on our wedding day, but it gave us a good feel of how big and full our bouquets would be. We then knew how to shape our final order with FiftyFlowers so that we would have the perfect amount of flowers and greenery.

Was there any flower magic that you did to help the venue still appear full?

Andria: I would say our tall floral centerpieces helped the venue feel SO full! Having ten of the tall flower centerpieces was always in my plan. When my guest list was larger there would have been more tables to fill with other centerpiece options. There was now a tall floral centerpiece on half of the tables and the head table had 4! I feel that these helped elevate the eye line above just the table height and created a full and romantic look at the reception!

What videos did you use from the FiftyFlowers Youtube channel?

Although we didn't do all rose this helped us with how to put a bouquet together!

And this video helped create our centerpieces!
