Donut Themed Baby Shower

A second baby boy is on the way! We wanted to honor this Momma and baby boy #2 with a small gathering of family and close friends. A Baby "Sprinkle" (instead of a "Shower") implies a tad less fuss but just as sweet a celebration for the Mom-to-be.

We decided on a 10:30 am event with light bites and gourmet donuts! The invitation featured a bright blue donut with sprinkles fit the theme perfectly and who doesn't love an excuse to devour a yummy donut?!

Choosing The Flowers

Our favorite, natural blue flowers are tweedia, cornflower and delphinium, so the Blue Wildflower DIY Pack we ordered was perfect for this baby shower! This pack also included scabiosa, which fit right into the wildflower look. We paired this pack with a mini daisy wildflower called feverfew. And the flower experts at FiftyFlowers suggested we add a bit of lisianthus and to complete the look.

Step 1- Decorate The Vessels

A trio of decorated mason jars is an easy way to DIY arrangements. We ordered the mason jars, ribbon and gems several weeks prior to the event so we could get the vessels prepped and ready in advance. Adding texture and sparkle to the mason jar trio with a hot glue gun is an easy twist on the well-loved mason jar.

Step 2- Hydrating The Flowers

The blooms arrived the day prior to the event. The flowers looked a bit sleepy when we opened the boxes. But after we processed and hydrated them for about 4 hours the blooms were absolutely gorgeous and ready to wow our guest of honor.

Step 3- Making The Arrangements

When working with stems that have a spray or multiple smaller stems coming off a larger stem it's important to allow extra time. Each stem of Feverfew has multiple sprays which have to be cut and sorted. Only the longer stems work for the 32 oz. mason jars and the short stems work well in the smaller mason jars. It took about 2 hours to trim and sort all the sprays and then another hour to make the arrangements.

Decorations

The mason jar trios were placed around the room to bring splashes of blue color and that wildflower feeling to the day! We ordered a French blue runner for the dining room table and placed the tower of blue donuts in the center. Just for fun we transformed a tray of six blue donuts into "babies" by adding pacifiers (from the Dollar Store) and candy eyes (from Michaels). We ordered two handmade banners and custom donut party signs to complete the look.

The Menu

A brunch including fruit salad, a bacon bar, pastries surrounded the tower of blueberry cake donuts. For beverages, we offered an iced coffee bar and Mimosas with a variety of fruit nectars to choose from. While the color blue was the primary hue for a baby boy, we wanted to add a splash of hot pink for our friend who is a hot pink kind-of-girl! A DIY ice bucket made with flower petals and fruit was the perfect way to honor her!

The guest of honor was completely surprised and surrounded by her family and dearest friends. The guests each received a box of gourmet donuts as they departed to be sure they remembered the sweet, delicious day.
